The impact of malpractice fears on cesarean section rates

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the impact of malpractice claims risk on the use of cesarean sections and birth outcomes. The study is the first to assess whether the extent of physicians' defensiveness depends on the socioeconomic status of the mother. Results demonstrate that physicians practice defensive medicine in obstetrics and that the defensive response varies by the socioeconomic status of the mother.
