Neonatal stress reactivity and cortisol

Article Abstract:

Little is known about the biological and psychological consequences of stress on humans. However, research suggests that the development of the adrenocortical response patterns are set early in life and may influence the individual's interaction with the surrounding environment. Furthermore, there is conflict regarding the use of cortisol levels as a diagnostic tool in the newborn intensive care unit.
