Risk-sharing integration efforts in the hospital sector

Article Abstract:

The need of medical institutions to maintain marketing competence while reducing risks has encouraged a growing number of hospitals to employ integrated delivery systems (IDS). An analysis involving 235 short-term private hospitals highlighted an increased use of network financial risk-sharing in the industry. The trend may significantly be attributed to the efforts of hospital administrators to minimize costs while enhancing the quality of patient care. Intense competition in the local market level has also promoted the adoption of risk-sharing strategies among hospitals.

Management science operations research projects in health care: the administrator's perspective

Article Abstract:

The intense competition in the healthcare industry has made it imperative for hospital administrators to apply management science and operations research (MS OR) models. Hospital administrators should be aware of the MS OR technologies being used by their competitors and monitor developments in MS OR analysis. Maintaining a constant communication with MS OR specialists will enable administrators to verify and assess the effectiveness of the models they use.

In times of transition: an organizational change from a family systems perspective

Article Abstract:

The reorganization of the Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY, via the implementation of a patient-centered care structure was studied. It was found that the reorganization process had the same characteristics of a family in transition. These are the creation of a blended family and experiences of a family immigrating to a new country. The lessons learned from the reorganization process are also discussed.
