Soliciting and evaluating quality-based bids

Article Abstract:

Hospital materiel management departments are faced with the arduous task of balancing financial viability and quality patient care in the procurement of medical and surgical supplies. It is advisable for materiel managers to require hospital suppliers to submit quotations. An evaluation team composed of representatives from the nursing and medical staff, purchasing, materiel management and anestheosiology departments, will then conduct an objective evaluation of quotations. Important considerations in the product selection process include cost, labeling, safety and storage qualities.

The environmental challenge

Article Abstract:

Today's society is faced with various environmental challenges such as air pollution, garbage disposal, water shortage and the continuing destruction of rain forests. Several measures have been taken to address these challenges in the form of pollution prevention strategies and environmental market incentives. In connection with this, materiel managers are in a position to help their hospital and community in dealing with environmental problems by serving as information resource on environmental concerns for their hospital and becoming internal environmental champions.
