Stochastic technology, production organization and costs

Article Abstract:

A simple stochastic general equilibrium model involving patients, physicians, insurers and uncertain diagnostic technology can be used to investigate a special type of problem in medical decision making. The model involves a demand for physician services that results in trading risk. It also involves physician services that promote goods and bads that obey probabilistic laws. Collective payments and the joint manufacturing of goods and bads are considered two potential sources of market failures. Incentive mechanisms are also found to determine the efficiency of production and distribution.

The impact of local welfare offices on children's enrollment in Medicaid and SCHIP

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that states such as Kansas should consider improvements in automation to support caseworkers' difficult job, in order to avoid a potential trade-off between local offices' impact on enrollment and retention. The results indicate a strong relationship between the location and setting for eligibility case management and the rate at which children in public health insurance in Kansas disenroll during their first potential year of coverage.
