Struggling to gain meaning: living with the uncertainty of breast cancer

Article Abstract:

Women with breast cancer face an uncertain future because treatment does not insure a cure. Nurses should try to understand this situation, and should provide these patients with support, information, and the opportunity to discuss their feelings. Hermeneutic phenomenology and photographic hermeneutics were used in a study to interpret uncertainty for several women who had been treated for breast cancer.

Living with chronic illness

Article Abstract:

Chronic illness is a common problem that often faces nurses caring for patients. However, the medical establishment and care providers historically have not responded well to patients' questions and desires regarding chronic illness treatment. A nurse's personal experience in dealing with her own chronic illness illustrates this point.
