The California connection

Article Abstract:

The California Health Collaborative helps coordinate health care services across participating regions. The collaborative was created in fall 1995 by the Health Services Research Foundation and the Hospital Council Foundation. The marriage of the health care foundations benefits providers by saving money and improving patient satisfaction. The collaborative is comprised of public health professionals, academic medical center people, business leaders and physicians.

When the smoke clears...after sifting through the ashes of a doomed merger, doctors and executives finally learn to work as one

Article Abstract:

Doctors were shocked when the merger failed between North Shore Medical Center, in Salem, MA, and neighboring Beverly Hospital. The merger had been so close to happening that many doctors believed that their futures' would be adversely affected when the merger fell through. However, North Shore ended up created its own successful physician hospital organization, an integrated health organization made up of physicians, executives, specialists and staff.

Employers get a clue

Article Abstract:

The Washington Business Group on Health wrote a guide providing businesses with the information they need to evaluate health plans. An advisory group of benefits managers, physicians, task force members and a union representative provided preventive care information that was translated from medical terminology to consumer-friendly terms. The guide was released in Jul 1996 and 2,000 to 3,000 copies have been sold as of Mar 1997.
