The complete blood count: physiologic basis and clinical usage

Article Abstract:

The complete blood count (CBC) is a very frequently ordered medical laboratory test with multiple uses and multiple parts. It is relatively inexpensive and analyzes the cellular components of peripheral blood. Understanding its strengths, limitations and what it indicates can help practitioners to decide when it can help in making a difficult diagnosis, monitoring treatment plans or avoiding tests that may cost more. Each test has its value in certain circumstances and each cell component has certain functions in the body.

Compensation models of certified nurse-midwives in clinical practice

Article Abstract:

Researchers have identified and compared five possible payment arrangements for certified nurse-midwives (CNMs). CNMs working as independent contractors are paid by a practice for their services but pay their own benefits and withholding taxes. CNMs can also buy into part of a practice, be paid as a salaried employee, be paid a portion of the practice's profits, or a combination of salary plus a portion of the practice's profits.
