CEOs say hospitals must learn from each other for TQM success

Article Abstract:

CEOs that have implemented Total Quality Management (TQM) programs at their hospitals believe it is important to study how quality programs are being applied elsewhere. One important aspect of selling the medical staff on the hospital's new service approach is by having a physician champion introduce TQM to the staff. Another aspect of TQM is maintaining a focus on patient service, which means all hospital activities should be centered on customer satisfaction.

Joint Commission cracks down on falsified records

Article Abstract:

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations issued a new policy in Spring, 1992, which prohibited revision of quality assessment documents. Hospitals must certify that accurate information has been provided. About 24 cases of allegedly falsified records are being reviewed. If the commission finds that hospitals have falsified quality records, they may lose accreditation, or never receive it.
