The quality and outcomes management connection

Article Abstract:

Continuous quality improvement of patient care requires an effective method of measuring and managing outcomes. The Continuous Outcomes Measurement and Improvement (COMIT) model presents a process that interdisciplinary teams can utilize to enhance outcomes. The eight-step model links an outcome or variance measure to its care processes. The standards of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations are compatible with outcomes management.

Point-of-care testing in the United Kingdom

Article Abstract:

Point-of-care testing has not spread as aggressively through the British hospital system as it has in the United States. The United Kingdom's National Health Service is slow to make changes and laboratories are resistant to decentralization. Where point-of-care testing is used is poorly regulated and there is no quality control in place.
