A 62-year-old woman with an infected right foot and aneurysmal dilatation of a femoral artery

Article Abstract:

A 62-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital with a foot infection five months after she had been catheterized. The catheter was placed in an artery in her leg and threaded up to her brain to treat a cerebral aneurysm. She developed an infection at the catheter site but developed side effects from the antibiotics she was given. During her subsequent hospitalization, X-rays of her right foot revealed inflammation around the ankle and indicated that she had infectious arthritis. Diagnostic imaging using radio-isotopes showed an aneurysm in her leg artery.

The relationship between purported dietary risk factors and new cases of gout among 47,150 men having no history of gout over a period of twelve years was examined. Studies revealed that higher levels of meat and seafood consumption increased the risk of gout, whereas consumption of dairy products in high level decreased the risk.
