A life-saving role in critical care

Article Abstract:

The UK Department of Health recommends that each trust within the National Health Service should have a resuscitation officer. This role is wide-ranging and challenging, but trusts have no formal guidelines concerning its responsibilities or required qualifications. This situation has led to diverse perceptions of the post, which is usually held by a nurse, and its place within a career structure. Elements of the role include training of hospital staff, research and development, and management of resuscitation equipment.

The art of practice development

Article Abstract:

The role of practice development nurse (PDN) needs to be properly established within a practice to ensure success in the long-term. The practice needs to take into account factors such as finance, skill mix, management support and accountability when establishing a PDN role. The main advantage of a PDN is making developments in education, professionalism and practice a priority within the health care facility.
