How much protection is enough?

Article Abstract:

Several precautions may help reduce the risk of infection between health care providers and patients but much is unknown about overall risk and the optimal ways to reduce it. Hand washing, protective clothing, and safe handling of needles are some of the ways to reduce risk of infections. However, even operating room precautions and needleless technology have been associated with infections. Prevention policy development has been hindered by unknown true risk and trends toward home care.

Support systems for medical decision making

Article Abstract:

It may be advisable to act conservatively in using computerized systems to guide medical decisions. This can be accomplished by either seeking or developing systems flexible enough to adjust to future needs, or postponing the acquisition of such a system until needs are more specific. However, legal complications and government mandates may make medical guideline systems a business necessity.
