The president of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) discusses the future of medical education in the US on the 125th anniversary of the association. Founded in 1876, the AAMC consists of 141 US and Canadian medical schools and about 400 teaching hospitals.

Poised to challenge need for sleep, "wakefulness enhancer" rouses concern

Article Abstract:

Pharmaceutical company Cephalon is asking the FDA to expand the number of medical conditions that its drug Provigil can be used to treat. Originally created to treat a sleeping disorder called narcolepsy, it is now used by many people to maintain alertness during the day. They claim it is better than other stimulants, but doctors are afraid people will use Provigil instead of getting a good night's sleep.
