AMA guidelines address treatment of sexual assault

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) has released physician guidelines for preventing and treating sexual assault and for diagnosing and treating mental health problems stemming from domestic violence. Physicians can help control sexual abuse by asking their patients if they are victims, since an AMA survey revealed that 87% of victims would discuss their trauma with doctors. The Dept of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey has found that 700,000 people are sexually assaulted annually, only 5% of whom are men.

Setting the record straight about the AMAP initiative

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Accreditation Program (AMAP), the standards program from the American Medical Association, provides standards for accreditation, site audits and credentialing. AMAP faces opposition from several physician factions, many of whom are concerned about the extent of AMAP jurisdiction. AMAP is expected to facilitate and streamline the accreditation process, potentially limiting the number of standards exams physicians must undergo.
