AMA put the 'trust' back into antitrust

Article Abstract:

Anti-trust legislation to facilitate the creation of physician networks is necessary to guarantee provider choice to patients and spur competition. Current regulations make it possible for corporate providers and insurance companies to merge, thus reducing the choice of providers available to patients, while making it difficult for physicians in communities to combine their practices. Physician networks are the only way to counter the increasing monopolization of health care by corporate providers and insurance companies.

Rights of passage

Article Abstract:

Several conservative and pro-family groups are pressuring state and federal governments to enact laws which limit access to confidential medical services for teens. The proposed laws would require parental permission for the treatment of urgent public health concerns, including sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy. The American Medical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics firmly support initiatives to improve access to confidential medical care for minors.
