AMA strategy: work for peace, plan for war

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) is prepared to negotiate with the Clinton administration over its planned healthcare reform policy. Once the policy is announced, the AMA plans to give its members a detailed analysis of it within one week. In the following two weeks the AMA plans to link up with state medical societies via satellite for meetings. In the third week, the AMA plans to increase its lobbying of Congress. Although the AMA supports reform, it does so only when its best interests are not in jeopardy.

Article Abstract:

AMA workshops can help physicians take a public stand in support of the use of animals in research, and prevent animal rights activists from winning the public opinion battle. The AMA will offer 13 workshops nationwide to provide participants information and tools to enlist public support for use of animals in biomedical research. Physicians have a responsibility to ensure that essential scientific research continues.
