AMA wants you: enlist in war on tobacco

Article Abstract:

Physicians should communicate the dangers of smoking to their patients and combat the tobacco industry by divesting of investments in such companies. The American Medical Assn offers a smoking cessation clinical guide to help physicians approach patients about eliminating tobacco use. The AMA is also asking doctors to stop investing in tobacco companies or even mutual funds which hold tobacco interests; the AMA divested of such interests more than ten years ago. The group is also forming a Coalition of Tobacco-free Investments and encouraging other groups also put economic pressure on the industry.

Dreaming of an end to the nightmare of malpractice

Article Abstract:

Many cases of medical malpractice are never brought to light because physicians are extremely reluctant to sue other physicians. They are also highly unlikely to report significant errors made by other doctors. Instances of medical malpractice could be reduced by a number of means, some of which include a higher level of vigilance and awareness by skilled doctors, the defense of innocent physicians who have been wrongly accused and disciplining of those who fall below acceptable standards of patient care.
