Achieving Magnet status

Article Abstract:

The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Program provides numerous benefits to those participating in the program and helps create and maintain an environment that ensure quality patient care in light of cost considerations. The application process, including site visit expectations, and an evaluation experience by representatives from recently designated Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is examined.

How to move into the next era of health care

Article Abstract:

The role of the nurse executive is changing as health care evolves from a traditional single-hospital model to integrated networks emphasizing health maintenance and preventive medicine. Nurse managers will have to develop communication, networking and decision-making skills in addition to their clinical skills to make themselves marketable. They will play major roles in developing standard care and evaluation procedures.

Central leadership and management objectives include developing service technologies that treat the knowledge of workers to meet consumer needs as a crucial resource. Innovation and entrepreneurship are the shortest paths to introduce new or improved nursing technologies.
