Dysregulation of beta-chemokines in the lungs of HIV-1-infected patients

Article Abstract:

Abnormal levels of beta-chemokines in the lung may explain why many HIV patients develop lung diseases, according to a study of 19 HIV-infected patients and 5 HIV-negative people. Beta-chemokines are chemicals produced by the immune system.

Increased replication of HIV-1 at sites of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection: potential mechanisms of viral activation

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on HIV-1 replication echancement by tuberculosis. Results demonstrate that at Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection sites conditions are propitious for HIV-1 transcriptional activation in latently infected mononuclear cells and for viral infection facilitation of newly recruited cells.

Activation of latent HIV-1 by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its purified protein derivative in alveolar macrophages from HIV-infected individuals in vitro

Article Abstract:

Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its purified protein derivative (PPD) can activate HIV in macrophages from HIV-positive patients. The virus was not activated in macrophages from patients without detectable virus in their blood.
