Acute ischaemic colitis due to hypotension and amoxicillin allergy

Article Abstract:

A case of acute ishaemic colitis, confirmed by colonoscopy and colon biopsy, caused by IgE mediated allergy to amoxicillin is presented. The case of a 67 year old woman, who neither smoked nor was diabetic, and with no personal or familiar history of atopy, received amoxicillin 1g orally as prophylaxis for bacterial endocarditis because of a mild aortic stenosis and before dental surgery is illustrated in this context.

Massive pleural effusion marked increase of CA-125

Article Abstract:

The implications of CA-125 measurement in a case where a 44 year old woman was admitted with two month history of progressive dyspnoea and had failed to improve with antibiotics is presented. CA-125 levels may lead to erroneous diagnosis of ovarian cancer and very high levels of tumor markers may be present in patients with benign pleural effusion.

An update on the diagnostic difficulties, current research, and criteria for diagnosis of tuberculous is presented. The diagnosis largely depends on histopathology of pericardial tissue or culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from this tissue or fluid.
