Adjuvant docetaxel or vinorelbine with or without trastuzumab for breast cancer

Article Abstract:

A comparison is made between docetaxel and vinorelbine for the adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer. Adjuvant treatment with docetaxel, as compared with vinorelbine, improves recurrence-free survival in women with early breast cancer and a short course of trastuzumab administered concomitantly with docetaxel or vinorelbine is effective in women with breast cancer who have amplified HER2/neu gene.

Effect of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor STI571 in a patient with a metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor

Article Abstract:

A drug that inhibits c-kit tyrosine kinase may be an effective treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumors, according to researchers who used the drug Glivec to treat a woman with this usually fatal tumor. This drug also inhibits the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase that causes chronic myelogenous leukemia and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
