Adverse drug reactions

Article Abstract:

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are classified into two types, augmented reactions resulting from an exaggeration of the normal pharmacological actions of a drug, and bizarre reactions which are responses not expected from the known pharmacological actions of the drug. If an ADR is dose-related, it might be minimized by reducing the dose, but it is important to consider other potential causes such as the person's underlying illness, another disease, or other over-the-counter medicines used for self-medication.

Combating high cholesterol

Article Abstract:

Several people with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) whose LDL levels do not respond to a combination of diet, exercise and medication need a dialysis to clear their blood. In cholesterol dialysis the patient's blood is extracted through one cannula, passed through a machine that removes cholesterol, and then returned to the bloodstream via a second cannula.
