Alternative and Western healing can work together

Article Abstract:

Practitioners of traditional and alternative styles of medicine should be more accepting of each other's possible contributions because it is vital that lines of communication remain open between them and their patients. If they are judgemental about patients' belief in and use of the others' remedies, then they risk losing a crucial point of connection with those patients, and they may not be able to convince patients that traditional therapy is the best course of action in an emergency. An example of a hospital program integrating both forms of medicine is given.

How one plan to give health care to the poor failed

Article Abstract:

Sixty health providers in the Chicago area attempted to set up a program that would provide medical care to poor families not on public assistance. Each family would pay $25 a year plus paying for services on a sliding scale according to the family income. Reasons for failure included lack of publicity, desire for free care, and the reaction of political organizations that it was a threat rather than an opportunity.

Plan now to keep contact when colleagues fall ill

Article Abstract:

Physicians should form support groups at the hospitals where they work to help physicians who have fallen ill overcome their illnesses. Physicians who are kept away from their work due to illness need to maintain contact with their colleagues so they do not feel isolated from the medical community. Such contacts also serve to cheer up physicians who are ill and help speed their recovery.
