An animal model of age-related macular degeneration in senescent Ccl-2- or Ccr-2-deficient mice

Article Abstract:

The mouse model for age-related macular degeneration incorporates deficiency in monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 or C-C chemokine receptor-2. The mice exhibit accumulation of lipofuscin and drusen in the retinal pigment epithelium, photoreceptor atrophy and choroidal neovascularization. Data suggest macrophage dysfunction as the cause of age-related macular degeneration pathogenesis.

Metformin reverses fatty liver disease in obese, leptin-deficient mice

Article Abstract:

Research addresses the relationship between fatty liver and insulin-resistance and hyperinsulinemia and evaluates the beneficial effects of insulin-sensitizing agent metformin. Results show that metformin reverses hepatomegaly and hepatic steatosis leading to an improvement in the liver disease. Mechanism of action of metformin is presented.
