Anti-infective antibodies: Finding the path forward

Article Abstract:

Basel-based Novartis Pharmaceuticals, in its quest to find new weapons to fight infections, has paid $569 million to acquire NeuTec Pharmaceuticals of Manchester, UK, and its two late-stage products, both antibody fragments developed as therapies for difficult-to-treat microbes. NeuTec's anti-staph product, Aurograb is an antibody fragment mAb rather than a polyclonal antibody and binds to the staphylococcal ABC transporter, a drug-efflux pump and if Aurograb is successful it might boost more than Novartis's profit.
