As tsunami recovery proceeds, experts ponder lessons for future disasters

Article Abstract:

Shekhar Saxena, MD, coordinator of mental health evidence and research at the World Health Organization and other psychiatrists reported field experiences in tsunami-affected countries and discussed best practices for responding to future large-scale disasters. He believes that meaningful help for areas deformed by catastrophes might include financial support for lengthy visits by specialists, and contributions of needed equipment and supplies or funds for their purchase.

New home for nation's research hospital: NIH opens Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center

The Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center provides extensive patient care and laboratory facilities and is the first National Institutes of Health (NIH) building to incorporate dedicated infrastructure levels. This center would focus on transitional research, which aims to expand basic science findings into therapies and use clinical observation to guide further study.
