Assessment of vitamin A deficiency in the Republic of Djibouti

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of vitamin A deficiency was assessed through clinical examination for xerophthalmia and impression cytology with transfer method on 2,445 subjects in the Republic of Djibouti. Results indicate a prevalence of periodic vitamin A deficiency occurring during poor nutritional periods. Children in rural areas were shown to be in a marginal vitamin A status and are thus highly susceptible to eyesight problems.
