Asthma: is pollution theory sucking us all in?

Article Abstract:

Considerable emphasis is put on air pollution from vehicles and cigarettes being the cause of asthma. However, research indicates that this is not the real cause. Hospital asthma admissions do not increase when air pollution is bad and Sweden has a higher incidence than Poland yet Poland has worse air quality. The air pollution theory is being promoted by politicians who have their own agendas and any research which conflicts with the pollution theory is not taken seriously. A more objective approach is needed to discover the real causes of asthma.

Smoke signals

Article Abstract:

It is right for the UK government to make people aware of the health risks associated with smoking. However, the anti-smoking message now seems to be being taken to extremes. Smokers are generally aware of the dangers involved, and should be left to make their own decision about whether to continue smoking. Making them feel guilty about passive smoking can be seen as undermining their intelligence. It is generally preferable for the government not to intervene in personal decisions.
