Attitudes toward mandatory human immunodeficiency virus testing and contact tracing: a survey of intravenous drug users in treatment

Article Abstract:

Asurvey of 196 intravenous drug abusers (IVDUs) found that 65% support the mandatory testing of high-risk people for infection with the HIV virus but that such support is strongest among former participants in voluntary testing. The survey was conducted to give IVDUs a voice in the enacting of mandatory HIV testing and contact tracing laws that will primarily affect IVDUs. The survey also found that 87% approve of contact tracing of HIV seropositive people. However, testing for HIV will not by itself control the virus; services related to drug abuse treatment are the necessary follow up.

Substance use among men who have sex with men: comparison with a national household survey

Article Abstract:

More gay men use drugs compared to heterosexual men, and this could place them at risk for HIV infection. This is because drug use often leads to risky sexual behavior. These conclusions are from a survey of 3,212 gay men and 2,481 heterosexual men.
