Back belts: the debate continues

Article Abstract:

Back belts are intended to prevent back strain and injuries by providing support to the spine. However, the value of back belts in the prevention of back injuries in the workplace is still debated. Researchers who are trying to establish the effectiveness of the use of back belts as a preventive measure for back injuries are faced with the problem of gathering accurate data for the test. The debate on back belts is also due to the variations in their design and construction. The exact mechanism by which the back belts support the spine is also questioned.

Safety around the clock: why it pays to invest in the off-the-job safety

Article Abstract:

Employers need to be concerned about the safety of their workers not only when they are at the workplace but also when they are at home. The establishment of programs concerning off-the-job safety is important because whether the cause of worker injury is work-related or not, their being sidelined means that the company would incur losses. In addition, when employees are aware that employers are concerned about promoting their safety, in the workplace or otherwise, the work force becomes happier and more productive.

Stop the spread of skin disease

Article Abstract:

Occupational dermatitis is a costly work-related disease that can be prevented. It occurs when chemicals come into contact with the skin and cause an injury. The employer can prevent the occurrence of the disease by instituting measures that will test the potential of the agent to cause injury and requiring the workers to implement precautionary measures during exposure to the chemical agent. The doctors should also receive adequate training in properly diagnosing and treating the disease.
