Back to the books: doctors enroll in business school to regain control in a corporate world

Article Abstract:

Physicians in increasing numbers are attending business school to get Masters degrees in health services administration. As many as 10,000 physicians were working in management positions in spring 1993, according to the American College of Physicians. Physician administrators make between $160,000 and $205,000 depending on the position attained. Some doctors see going into management as an escape from practicing medicine, but such a move should be considered carefully since management brings its own difficulties. Advice is also given on choosing an appropriate program and getting admitted.

Each side on abortion issue afraid to compromise

Article Abstract:

The issue of abortion includes political, social, economic and moral aspects, yet supporters and opponents treat it as a legal question. If the pro-life forces succeed in outlawing Roe v Wade, states will pass their own restrictions, but access to abortion will not cease. Many young, poor, uneducated women will need support during pregnancy and after birth. The groups seeking to eliminate abortion do not offer help with these problems.
