Bathhouse-based voluntary counseling and testing is feasible and shows preliminary evidence of effectiveness

Article Abstract:

A study provides evidence for the feasibility and effectiveness of conducting voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) for HIV in a bathhouse setting. A convenience sample of 133 testers showed that in the months after VCT, men were less likely to engage in unprotected anal intercourse (UAI), decreased their frequency of engaging in sex while drunk or high and were more likely to communicate about HIV with their sexual partners.

Late diagnosis of HIV infection: Trends, prevalence, and characteristics of persons whose HIV diagnosis occurred within 12 months of developing AIDS

Article Abstract:

The San Francisco AIDS case registry was used to identify all persons in the city whose HIV diagnosis occurred within the 12 months before their AIDS diagnosis and examine temporal trends in the prevalence and the characteristics of these late testers. The findings reveal that routine testing in medical settings, and use of rapid oral-fluid testing in traditional and nontraditional settings might increase early HIV diagnosis.

Deciding where and how to be tested for HIV: what matters most?

Article Abstract:

Many people prefer to be tested for HIV in a public clinic because of the privacy it provides. In a survey of 354 people, two-thirds chose this option, 24% chose a home self-test, and 12% chose a test at a doctor's office.
