Before battle: thoughts on doctor-patient relationship

Article Abstract:

Insurer full disclosure requirements and the exigencies of efficiency are threatening the once-sacrosanct doctor-patient relationship. The information requirements of managed care have sparked conflict-of-interests that further undermine the primacy and confidentiality of physician-patient interaction. Physicians seeking to maintain healthy and meaningful relationships with their patients can ensure such interactions by upholding the traditions that necessitate sincere and ethical patient care.

Cynical to hopeful: thoughts on Medicare, Medicaid reform

Article Abstract:

A physician with a large geriatric practice discusses Medicare and Medicaid reform. He believes a complete revision would require that vested interests be unable to affect the outcome of the revision. Involved parties, such as patients, patients' families, medical personnel, economists and others with ideas and observations, should participate in the revision. The increasing costs of the programs might stop if actual needs were served.

How to remove wedges between patients, doctors

Article Abstract:

There are several techniques to be utilized to enhance patient care. Patient-focused care should be the primary focus of a physician's practice. It is also important to communicate with the patient through providing pertinent literature and accepting questions about care. High levels of patient service should be provided not only by the physician but also by the other health care staff.
