Blunted seasonal variation in serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and increased risk of osteomalacia in vegetarian London Asians

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the blunted seasonal variation in serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and increased risk of osteomalacia in vegetarian London Asians. Results show that seasonal changes in 25-OH D in Asian residents in England can achieve the same peak levels as the indigenous white population. It was further shown that seasonal responses were blunted in vegetarian Asians leading to lower peak values compared with whites or non-vegetarians.

Nutritional intakes of vegetarian populations in France

Article Abstract:

Food behavior was assessed and nutritional intakes of vegetarian populations in France were determined. The findings indicate that vegetarians understand dietary requirements better than the general population, but that the vegetarian diet was more likely to be deficient in minerals and vitamins.
