Body piercing: controlling the risk of infection

Article Abstract:

Body piercing poses a risk of infection, and it is therefore important for infection control procedures to be followed at piercing studios. There must be a washable floor cover, tiled wales and no unnecessary items that may become contaminated. Furniture and work surfaces must have smooth, impervious surfaces. The piercer must wear clean, practical clothing, and should use non-sterile surgical gloves which are changed and discarded between clients. Attention must also be given to the correct disposal of waste.
