Bottom line is good management

Article Abstract:

Thirteen surveyed multispecialty medical groups have shown that sticking to sound business principles pays off with above average revenues and below average costs. The practices were diverse in terms of size, patient type, and geographic location, but all had strong business and financial management. The groups made use of formal strategic planning, fostered a cooperative internal culture, invested in computers and quality control, paid physicians appropriately, and emphasized customer service.
