Building consensus, protecting our future

Article Abstract:

The physician supply needs of the 21st Century are being met by the American Medical Assn and other health associations who are developing the Consensus Statement on Physician Workforce. Increased federal medical school funding and the creation of a national body to study work force needs are two key recommendations. Opportunities for foreign-born physicians and medical school and hospital finances are also areas which the Statement addresses.

Protecting against losses from employee theft, fraud

Article Abstract:

Physicians should establish procedures to detect and prevent fraud by employees. The physician could hire human resources professionals to conduct thorough background checks on job applicants. Also, employees should rotate office duties so that no one employee has complete control over the business' financial records. Physicians should also set a good example by not taking cash from the sales register for personal expenses.
