Bullets and bombs, cuts and crashes

Article Abstract:

The management of a traumatic wound should be guided by the type, severity, and cause of the injury, with simple classification being divided into tidy or untidy wounds. Regardless of the severity it is important to follow the basic principles of debridement and investigative exploration to ascertain the possibility of further extensive injuries. People injured by bomb blasts can suffer a wide variety of wounds, ranging from brain damage, limb amputation, fragment wounds and lung damage.

Concentrated care

Article Abstract:

Improved care of patients with pressure sores or surgical wounds would prevent extra hospital stays, reduce the cost of patient care and cause less discomfort for the patient. Nurse-led clinics have an important role to play in ensuring the best possible wound management care for patients. Many of the nursing techniques fall under the specialities banner, but all go to help improve patient care at the initial treatment stage and further down the road to recovery.

Arguments over iodine

Article Abstract:

The use of povidone-iodine to assist the process of wound healing has been wide spread since the 1950s, although research into its effectiveness is limited. More research needs to be carried out into the toxicity of iodine applications, especially on large wounds. Small wounds and burns appear to benefit greatly from the application of povidone-iodine. Research also needs to be undertaken into the best type of wound dressing to use with iodine.
