Bureaucracy surrounding medicine is an atrocity

Article Abstract:

A pediatrician discovered that his electronic claims were being disallowed by the insurance company that handled payments for his patients' care. However, the intermediary assured him the matter would be corrected, and many physicians suffered from the same problem. Then he discovered that his patients were being sent to other doctors because the computer program indicated that he would accept no new patients. Physicians must regain control from these irresponsible intermediaries.

Accountability must be restored to health care system

Article Abstract:

Physicians used to be accountable and responsible to their patients because the physician-patient relationship was built on trust. However, physicians' accountability has eroded since there are competing definitions of quality care and doctors are increasingly responsible to networks, associations and insurers instead of patients. Legislators, too, should be held accountable for their laws and regulations because many government programs fail to achieve their intended purpose.

Two young patients shot: 'waste, rage, frustration.'(Column)

Article Abstract:

The gang-related shootings of two young patients demonstrate to a San Pedro, CA, pediatrician that no patient, and therefore no doctor, is immune from pointless violence. He feels rage, frustration, and waste over the shootings. He believes that medical professionals must actively work against violence in their communities.
