CDC program reduces teen AIDS/STD risk

Article Abstract:

An AIDS program instituted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is touted to promote safe sex among teenagers. An evaluation of the two-year 'Safer Choices' program at the 12th World AIDS Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, from Jun 28-Jul 3, 1998 showed that there were substantially fewer episodes of unprotected sex among the 2,000 ninth-grade students who participated, both in the short- and long-term. The use of HIV and pregnancy prevention methods was greater among the participating students, compared to the 2,000 who received the usual HIV/STD prevention curriculum.
