CDC starts early warning infection control system

Article Abstract:

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is planning to set up regional offices in Oregon, California, Minnesota and Connecticut in order to better detect new diseases and the return of old ones. Oregon state epidemiologist David Fleming says that the US is unprepared to deal with emerging pathogens. CDC hopes that its regional programs will improve its ability to handle health threats before they become widespread or deadly.

A report by the Assn of State and Territorial Health Officials found that legal syringe exchange programs should be part of a program to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS in injection drug users. Siege relief

Article Abstract:

Limited public funds are proving to be a threat to the US public health infrastructure. There are more poor and underinsured patients, a greater number of privatized public sector services and a higher use of managed care. Physicians should also be concerned about resistance to antibiotics, more virulent infectious diseases and environmental health issues.
