COX-1-Sparing NSAIDs--Is the Enthusiasm Justified?

Article Abstract:

More research is needed to determine if COX-2 inhibitors are cost-effective for treating arthritis pain. COX-2 inhibitors are drugs that inhibit an enzyme called cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Two COX-2 inhibitors have been approved by the FDA: celecoxib and rofecoxib. Two 1999 studies found that both drugs appear to have fewer gastrointestinal side effects than most other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, the risk of these side effects is very small in most people and COX-2 inhibitors are expensive. They may only be cost-effective in certain patients, such as elderly people with a history of ulcers.

Steel mill minimizes downtime

Article Abstract:

Steel milldowntime relies greatly on a very efficient control system. Gerrard and Co's cold-strip steel facility in Florence, AL, used to employ a rotating analog control system which became inefficient in time. After the old system broke down, Gerrard and systems integrator Electric Machine Control Inc thought of using an input/output system applicable to programmable controllers. The new system lessened the downtime and maintenance costs while increasing production and quality.
