Can American healthcare coverage catch up?

Article Abstract:

Leadership in the US needs to explore the resolution of basic issues essential to creating a fair and equitable health system. The basic elements include universal definition of rights and services accessible to all, standardization of health administration, elimination of disparities in access to a common set of services, freedom of choice with regard to healthcare providers and practitioners, evidence-based and safe foundations for clinical practice and patient care.

Beyond expectations: Part 1

Article Abstract:

The Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) enrolled 3,103 US hospitals in the 100,000 Lives Campaign, to save 100,000 lives between December 2004 and June 2006. It was estimated that the participating hospitals saved more than 122,300 lives in 18 months, exceeding expectations. An overview of how the results were calculated, and the impact on quality are presented.
