Cell division on-off switches sought as targets for cancer drugs

Article Abstract:

Scientists are studying the mutations in person's gene with a goal to develop drugs to target the specific proteins encoded by them. Matthew Meyerson, of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, is searching for mutations in genes that encode kinases, the enzymes that often act as on-off switches that direct a cell to either divide or rest.

"Promiscuous" anticancer drugs that hit multiple targets may thwart resistance

Article Abstract:

Scientists investigating on anticancer drugs and their treatments feel that many anticancer drugs may actually bind to multiple proteins. The researchers are finding ways to improve these anticancer drugs because, although these drugs attacks multiple but limited targets may help keep cancer cells from developing resistance.
