Care of the older hypothermic patient using a self-care model

Article Abstract:

The self-care model of nursing for hypothermia can play a particularly useful role in the care of older people. The basis of this model is that people need nursing care when their needs for care are greater than their own ability to deal with these needs. In this model, care is implemented in a wholly compensatory system, with the patient having no active role, or in a partly compensatory system, with the care being shared by the patient and the nurse, or in a supportive-educative system, with the care being undertaken by the patient with assistance from the nurse. Within self-care, the main aim is to allow the patient to take responsibility for his or her own health.

An introduction to stomas: Reasons for their formation

Article Abstract:

A stoma is an artificial opening in the bowel made deliberately in order to bring the bowel onto the surface of the abdomen so as to divert the flow of faeces or urine. The reasons behind the designing of stomas to manage disease and continence problems and the three types of stoma, such as colostomy, ileostomy and ileal conduit, are discussed.
