Clearing the air in foundries

Article Abstract:

Exposure of foundry workers to silica dust and fumes from molten metals such as lead, nickel and chromium can lead to a variety of illnesses that include silicosis, gastrointestinal disturbance, anemia, lung cancer and kidney and neurologic disorders. To minimize their exposure to these hazardous substances, proper ventilation controls should be placed in foundries. Operating areas such as cabs, booths and platforms should also be properly enclosed and well-ventilated to minimize employees' exposure to silica dust.
