Clinical efficacy of hydroxyurea (500 mg BID) plus didanosine (400 mg QD) as simplification regimen of successful highly active antiretroviral therapy

Article Abstract:

The utility of structured treatment interruption is discussed in chronically infected patients with suppressed viral load (VL) and high CD4 T-cell counts. The combination of hydroxyurea (500 mg bid) plus ddl (400 mg QD) was offered to subjects with VL of less than 50 HIV RNA copies/mL and CD4 counts of more than 350 cells/muL for longer than 6 months under highly active antiretroviral therapy.

HAART-mediated immune reconstitution as a target for therapy management and immunotherapy

Article Abstract:

Aspects of immune reconstitution and recovery of function after highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) were reviewed. Immune reconstitution studies revealed that innate immune responses experience longitudinal increases over time, including natural killer and its functional cytotoxicity, interferon-alpha induced cytotoxicity, mastocytoid dendritic cells and plasmocytoid dendritic cells.
