Comparison of energy expenditure measurements by diet records, energy intake balance, doubly labeled water and room calorimetry

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze energy expenditure (EE) measurements such as energy intake (EI) from diet records, metabolized energy intake balance (ME), average daily EE using doubly labeled water (TEE), and 24 hour EE using room calorimetry (24 EE). Results show that EE measurements from diet records and 24 EE method are underestimated while ME intake balance is a good measure of EE. TEE measurements using doubly labeled water is considered as the more direct method in determining EE.

Sex ratio of total energy intake in adults: an analysis of dietary surveys

Article Abstract:

Data obtained from 81 dietary surveys undertaken in 28 countries has been analyzed to address the sex ratio of total energy intake (TEI) and the factors affecting this ratio. It was established that the sex ratio of TEI substantially falls with advancing age. Dietary assessment methods have a considerable effect on the sex ratio of TEI. The sex ratio of TEI is probably overestimated in most dietary surveys.

Feeding problems in children with congenital heart disease: the impact on energy intake and growth outcome

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the presence or absence of early feeding problems and poor appetite in children with congenital heart disease to obtain a cross-sectional data on growth outcome, upper-arm measurements and energy intake. Results show that the parents' experience with feeding problems may be a good indicator for low growth outcome and low voluntary food intake of the child.
