Computer illiterate no more - she's addicted

Article Abstract:

Surfing the World Wide Web can be an enormous time waster as users wait several minutes to display relevant graphics and visit sites and home pages that refer the user onward to non-existent addresses. One example of an entertaining but valuable-time-wasting site is the Michigan State Medical Society Home Page, where 'The Big Button' has attracted many comments about how it functions or doesn't function. Another huge drawback to surfing the Web is the amount of irrelevant, although interesting, information found, which often distracts users from their original search.

Taking it on the CHIN - why some data networks fail

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of health care centers are adopting integrated community health information networks (CHINs) to ready themselves for the transition to a health care system dependent on electronic data transfer. From the 35 CHINs that have been started nationwide, only 8 are in operation with 2 having already ceased operating. Legislative and regulatory impediments, conflicts of interest between health care administrators and physicians, and the prospect of multiple CHINs in certain areas have been responsible for the slow development of CHINs.

Is the U.S. willing to pay the price for health reform?

Article Abstract:

William A. Glaser of the New School for Social Research advocates universal health insurance funded through payroll taxes to reform the healthcare system. Medicare and Medicaid would cease to exist; these services would be covered by the insurance carriers. Germany is an example of this type of system. For this type of reform to succeed, Americans must accept payroll taxation to subsidize low income groups.
